Biography of Mark Yale Harris ( Late 20th Century, American )

Mark Yale Harris discovered his true passion in the Southwest and made Santa Fe his home in the late 1990s. In 1996, he dedicated himself to stone carving and sought mentorship from acclaimed sculptors Bill Prokopiof and Doug Hyde. Inspired by the region and guided by his mentors, Harris transitioned from a successful career in sustainable urban development to a full-time artist. Working with alabaster, marble, limestone, and bronze, he combines different elements to express duality in his creations.

Over the past fifteen years, Harris has continuously challenged himself, participating in numerous exhibitions globally. He values learning and teaching, attending workshops with renowned artists like Terry Allen, Jo Harvey, and James Surls. Engaging in charitable work, particularly with Fine Art for Children and Teens in Santa Fe, brings him special gratification.

Harris’s sculptures have been featured in over 80 solo, museum, and international exhibitions, with more than 100 publications showcasing his work. Several books, including “Mark Yale Harris: Figurative Abstractions” and “Mark Yale Harris: Untamed,” document his career. His works are present in permanent public collections and have been exhibited in notable institutions worldwide, including the Royal Academy of London, National Museum of Wildlife Art, and Palm Springs Art Museum. Represented by twenty galleries in the US and UK, Harris continues to make a significant impact in the world of sculpture.
