Adolphe Pierre Leleux

Adolphe Pierre Leleux was born in Paris, France in 1812. He is the older brother of the painter Armand Leleux . During his formative years, Leleux worked in an engraving workshop with Sixdeniers  Alexandre Vincent, but at the age of 25, Leleux began to devote himself to painting.  His early works feature scenes of the Picardy countryside.  Leleux exhibit at the Paris Salon in 1835. In 1838, he discovered Britain and begins to paint scenes of the Breton countryside, which earned him the nickname of Leleux le Breton. In 1847, he made ​​a trip to Constantine with Edmond Hédouin. His inpiration in country-side scenes widens to Algeria, Spain, the Pyrenees and the Morvan. The post-romantic realist painter, Adolphe Leleux was notably friends with Théophile Gautier and Gérard de Nerval.
