Franck Jean Baptiste Louis Cinot was a painter of genre scenes, animals, and landscapes. He was a student of his father, and debuted at the Paris Salon of 1874 with his painting ‘Peched’envie.’ European Art Gallery’s ‘A Walk in the Country’ is a great example of Cinot’s skills. Not only is it a detailed landscape, but it also entails a small genre scene of two young lovers. This painting harkens back in time in the costumes and mannerisms of the couple. The young woman and gentleman are on a walk in the woods with a small church steeple in the distance, hinting at a future marriage. Cinot’s painting is of the cross section in the French school between Academic subject matter and a slightly impressionistic technique.
