Gustave Mascart ( Valenciennes , 1834 – Paris , 1914 ) was a French painter.
Gustave Mascart was a pupil of the much-traveled marine painter Jean-Baptiste Henri Durand-Brager (1814-1879), during his lifetime best known for his seascapes with warships.
Mascart focused on the realistic cityscape. Especially Paris and the periphery were discussed in his work. He can be considered one of the pioneers of what is called “Montmartre Painters” is going to call, with its views of Montmartre , the Moulin Rouge , Pigalle , et cetera. Mascart also painted in other places cityscapes, including in: Amsterdam (the Montelbaanstoren ), Como , Ghent , Ostend and the windmills of Kinderdijk .
