Paul Charles E. Gallard Lepinay was born in Aulnay (Charente-Maritime), France on May 23rd 1842
In 1864, the artist debuted at the Paris Salon with ‘La Grand Cote Pres Royan au Martin’ and ‘Soliel Couchange sur L’Adriatic’. Early works for Gallard – Lepinary included port scenes throughout la Rochelle (the West) and Normandy. However, it is interesting to note by collectors and critics his most popular subjects were of the magical sights in light-filled Venice. Through these works, the painter expressed a deep fascination with the city’s luminescence and its mystery through its length canals and deep water lagoons. Also noted are Gallard Lepinay’s authentic compositions depicting historical naval battles. In 1880, the artiest most memorable battle scenes were exhibited at the Paris Salon: ‘Comat du 13 Prairail and ‘II’. Three additional works are exhibited in the permanent collection at The Cherbourg Museum, France.\Gallard – Lepinary’s body of work allows the painter to be considered more a maritime artists than a landscape artists.
