Brooks’s maritime paintings are celebrated for the accuracy with which they depict historical naval scenes, and the vessels involved. The present scenes depict USS Constitution engaging with HMS Guerriere, in the War of 1812 between British and American forces, and a battle in the French Revolutionary Wars, in which the British frigate HMS Fisgard engaged with and captured the French frigate Immortalité.
