Biography of Jules Rambo ( 1896-1974, Belgian )

Working in and around Brussels in the first half of the twentieth century, Jules Rambo was a painter of landscapes, portraits, figurative pieces and still-lifes. Using an Impressionist technique, yet enlivening his work with Fauvist colors, his heavily applied paint texture makes for an appealing image.

A number of major retrospective exhibitions of his work were held in Belgium including one at the Galerij Rubens in Brussels, 1956 in conjunction with the paintings of Gilberte Noyer and others in 1945, 1947 and 1950 at the Galerij De Giroux also in Brussels.

This strongly painted view depicts a view of the Chaussee de Boondael in the Brussels area of Ixelles, painted around 1925 it perfectly illustrates his strengths as an applier of paint and a colorist.
