Camille Triest Van Mulders was born in Brussels in 1868 and, as a young woman, studied at the Brussels Academy. Here she was tutored by Jean Portaels, but arguably more importantly, Hubert Bellis, Bellis was a leading still-life painter of his day and cleary was the predominant influence on the young artist. In her late twenties, she moved to the suburb of Schaerbeek and established a studio. From here she submitted works for inclusion in a number of important exhibition venues including the Exposition de Casino in Ghent and the Société Royale des Beaux Arts.
